13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh[a]; rather, serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:13 NIV)
Volunteers are critical to the ministry of Mission Central. Here is an account of one Volunteer’s experience:
About thirteen years ago, Rhoda Enders invited me to visit Mission Central. That was the beginning of my new ministry! At that time Rhoda needed help sorting the weekly donations used to complete mission kits. At first, I only helped when she called me, but eventually I found myself volunteering on a regular basis.
Later, I was approached by Harry Overholtzer, the first Executive Director, who was demonstrating how to sew “school kits.” Since I enjoy sewing, I decided to tackle this project as well. It is amazing how God nudges us and gives us the ambition and the ability to complete a project that can improve a child’s school life.
God’s nudges continue to complete my world. Currently, I assist with whatever duties are needed, including counting donations that arrive weekly. My time has been enriched by working with the many volunteers who come from other states and Canada.
Is God calling you? I encourage you when you are asked to volunteer to let God’s “nudges” open your heart so you, too, will experience the rich fulfillment that is the reward of serving. Or, if you are not directly asked to volunteer, take the initiative to call and make yourself available to serve.
PRAYER: Calling God please open the hearts of your children and inspire them to share their time and talents that through their prayers and the work of their hands the ministry of Mission Central will be fulfilled now and into the future. AMEN.
