“I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service…” (I Corinthians 3:6-9 NIV)
These words written by the Apostle Paul remind us of the importance of working together to accomplish the purposes of God. Connecting and networking is extremely important in the ministry of Mission Central as our work is expanded and multiplied by the HUBS. Those working in the HUBS experience many God Moments which they have graciously shared for this devotional.
From Holly Paige, HUB at Paxtonville UMC, Lewisburg District
Shortly before the Haitian earthquake our HUB decided to do layette kits. We had never done that kit before and didn’t know why this idea came to us. After the earthquake, Mission Central put out a call for layette kits, and we had thirty finished and ready to deliver! We acted on the idea, it bore fruit to help those in need and God’s plan was revealed!
From Lois Bowers, Wilmington HUB, Christiana, DE
We all feel that every time we are able to open our doors, we receive a blessing. We meet new people from various churches in Delaware. The last time we were open, in particular, we had a group of the most marvelous children. They were a joy to have with us and were very hard workers.
We are also so very thankful that our treasurer introduced us to a gentleman who owns a trucking company a few miles from the HUB. It was always a struggle finding ways to get our kits to Mission Central and finding Mike has certainly been a blessing! He makes the trips for us and refuses to take any payment. He said he feels that this is his way of giving back.
From Barbara Glass, Altoona HUB
An outstanding, yes, “Outstanding” God Moment occurred a couple of years ago, when visitors from Sierra Leone visited us at the HUB. During the course of the conversation, our visitors told us that in one of the small villages there was a generator. Because of that, they were able to begin the process of setting up a training facility to teach women how to sew items that would benefit the village’s families and which they could sell on consignment, but, they needed sewing machines.
Moment of quiet in my head….we have on hand at our HUB five sewing machines! Could these be shipped to Sierra Leone? Pastor Greg Johnson mentioned that a container with supplies was being prepared by Mission Central to be sent to Sierra Leone. Without hesitation, we offered three of the sewing machines. We spread the word in our District and received two more machines. They were serviced and along with additional thread, needles and oil, the sewing machines were packed and taken to Mission Central for shipment.
PRAYER: O God, You created us to live and serve in community. We thank You for the ministries of the Mission Central HUBS and all of Your faithful willing workers who serve through the various ministries they initiate. We are grateful that by working together we can find strength and purpose to carry on the ministry You have entrusted to us. AMEN.
