“I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams and your young men will see visions.” (Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:17 NIV)
According to reports of the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, the churches of the Central Pennsylvania region have historically been generous supporters of mission work throughout the world. We have supported full time missionaries, responded to disasters through mission trips and have provided disaster response through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief). Over the years we have earnestly tried to respond to Jesus’ comment in (Matthew 25:40) “Whatever you do for the least of these my children, you have done for me.”
So, we felt pretty satisfied and shouldn’t we? We’ve given, we’ve served and we’ve loved Jesus as we have taken care of his children. Could we do better?
Well … Yes, “But now I will show you a more excellent way.” (1 Cor. 12:31b. ) God gave Bishop Neil Irons a vision of a centrally located place where mission-minded servants could gather and work together to combine materials and efforts to enhance their effectiveness. Bishop Irons gathered some key persons from the Conference area and shared this vision. They were asked to work together to investigate this idea and come up with a plan. At the 2001 Annual Conference, the Task Force was consecrated to develop a plan which included: a building committee, a fund-raising team, a publicity committee and most importantly, a Prayer team. After one year, the Task Force was to report back to the 2002 Annual Conference with their plan. Much prayer, effort and hard work went into the project of that Task Force. And by June of 2002, the Task Force had a plan for a ministry to be named “Mission Central.”
PRAYER: Creator God, You are the One who ordained the cycle of days and seasons and we are grateful that they help us understand Your perfect timing in all the endeavors life. Thank you for the unfolding story of Mission Central and for the opportunity to be a part of this meaningful ministry. AMEN.
