“3 He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. 4 As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.5 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth. 6 And all people will see God’s salvation.’”[a] ( Luke 3:3-6 NIV)
A NEW DIGS GOD MOMENT
A number of years ago, a tiny girl wanting a book touched my heart. Long before there was a waiting area for New Digs clients, a little girl sat in the snack room with her grandmother, while her mother selected furniture and furnishings for their new apartment.
She was six and she was excited because she was going to have a blanket and sheets for her bed. The day felt like Christmas. I knew that a new bag of stuffed animals had arrived, as we sorted items earlier that day and I had already asked her mother if she could have one.
When I went into the snack room to get a fresh cup of coffee and give her the animal, she asked if we had any books that she might have. I went back into the warehouse and found two colorful calendars, but only four small books.
I gave her the items and she examined them carefully and put them in two stacks. She looked at me and asked, “May I have two for me and two for my brother?”
When I said yes, she hugged the books tightly and said, “Oh thank you. I never had a book of my own before.”
PRAYER: God of all ages we are grateful that you speak through all your children, and especially through small children to teach us your truths. Help us always praise you for your many gifts and blessings in our lives, and always remember to share from our abundance with those who are experiencing difficulties and want in their lives. Bless this little girl and her family that they may thrive in an awareness of your love through the ministry of Mission Central. AMEN
