“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened”
(Luke 11:9-10 NIV)
God is opening doors…..that is what we believe at the Altoona Hub! Over and over again, we are privileged to witness God working in and through us, reminding us daily that God is truly Awesome and Amazing.
During our almost eight years of service, God has opened doors to 45-50 different mission outreach programs, social services agencies, after school programs and a variety of groups in our area. The Altoona HUB has been able to share non-standard items with these organizations…some once, twice and some on a somewhat regular basis. When a volunteer mentions a need and if something is available, it is given.
We are grateful for our faithful volunteers. Many come to help–both individuals and small groups—as well as large groups from Penn State and Saint Francis Universities. All are open to helping and learning where and how Mission Central is reaching people near and far. Some have returned to volunteer–not as part of a student group–but individually and they are always welcome. The Skills group volunteers visit the HUB regularly and from this group of volunteers, we learn there is work for all of God’s children.
Through the work of the volunteers and the generosity of God’s people the God Moments unfold in our midst. Recently, a husband and wife brought a sewing machine in good working order to the HUB. This was the first God Moment of the day—another sewing machine to be shipped to meet emerging needs in Sierra Leone!
Then, the second God Moment of the day–the couple offered to also donate a portable sewing machine they had at home that had just been serviced. One of our HUB communicators had made us aware that a young woman was waiting for a sewing machine so she could sew school bags. Now, here was a machine for her! Both needs were met that day, by God working through the generosity of this couple. God continues to work through ordinary people to meet human needs! God is good! All the time!
PRAYER: Loving Caring God, thank you for hearing and understanding our needs. Thank you for speaking to us and inspiring us to reach out to others in Your name. Help us continue to respond to Your voice and the needs of others in every way possible. AMEN.
