“ I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people…” (Ephesians 1:18 NIV)
For some time, I’d been searching for something…something to get involved in or some way to make a difference.
One Sunday in church, one of our members spoke about Mission Central. It sounded like an amazing place. I visited the website and read all about Mission Central and remember thinking how great it would be to one day be a part of the staff.
This was around Thanksgiving, 2014. From then until Christmas, with hectic schedules, the idea of Mission Central was put on hold. As we drove home from a New Year’s trip, my wife and I spoke about Mission Central and how interested I’d been when I first learned about it. We decided that I needed to volunteer there…I knew I had something to offer.
I made arrangements to meet with my pastor to discuss Mission Central and see how I might be able to help, but that meeting had to be rescheduled. When we met the next week and I told my pastor of my interest in Mission Central, he suddenly remembered that I had a background in Communications. He said that over the weekend, he had learned that Mission Central was unexpectedly in need of a Communications person. If we had met at the original time, he wouldn’t have known that.
He asked if he could call Marsha Fisher, the Board President at the time, to get some more details about the position. The three of us spoke immediately and the next thing I knew, I was contacting the Executive Director, Rob Visscher, and had an interview for the following week.
I was hired for the position and began what has been the most fulfilling work of my career. My involvement with Mission Central has been exciting and energizing. I wake up each day knowing that I have a chance to help this amazing ministry and the people that it serves. I truly believe that this chain of events is another example of the many “God Moments” that are always happening at Mission Central.
PRAYER: O Creator God, we are so grateful that You know our thoughts and the deepest longings of our hearts. Thank you for guiding and directing our path in life. We praise you for choosing us to serve You in a variety of ways in order to meet the needs of Your children near and far. Continue to strengthen us for the tasks to which we are called. AMEN.
