“ In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” (Hebrews 1:1-2 NIV)
The staff at Mission Central is privileged to witness “God Moments” on a regular basis, but never lose their sense of awe when realizing they are a part of God’s unfolding plan of service to others. They share some of their experiences for our devotional this week.
(From Rev. Ruth Ward, Mission Central Mission Education Coordinator)
“…Sitting in the snack room at Mission Central and eating lunch is often a prelude to much more than just eating. Staff and volunteers share stories, review the events of the morning and share prayer requests. Laughter surrounds us.
One Friday, we were sitting together and Janice (from New Digs) was asked what she was doing that was exciting. She looked at us, a bit exasperated, and said “I’m trying to figure out where we’re going to get some towels and blankets by Monday.” We don’t have any left at all.”
As she was sharing her need, Zack (from Bethesda Mission Outreach) walked through. He heard her statement and said, “I’m on my way to pick up blankets from a hotel that is buying new linens. There will probably be some towels in it as well. You are welcome to take whatever you need.”
When returning to Mission Central a couple hours later, he had all the blankets and towels that she needed for her Monday clients…and more.

“…Feeding supplements are donated to us on a regular basis and we send them to those in need across the country. When we receive a donation, we contact one of our local recipients in Carlisle, whose only source of nourishment for the past 7 years has been these supplements. The time we call usually corresponds to the time when she has just run out! God is on time, all the time!

The Lancaster Hub came to Mission Central to drop off completed UMCOR kits and pick up Giant summer items. While they were here, they shared that they were going to start a Family Shelter at the church and were looking for some floor mats or single bed mats that could be used for temporary sleeping arrangements.
They described some they saw at a homeless ministry site and asked if we had anything similar. I told them we did not, but since they needed them and had asked for them, they would come in! This was about noon. Around 2:30 p.m., I was talking to a person from another ministry who stated they were getting rid of some single person bed mats and wanted to know if we wanted some. I said “Yes” and was able to call the Lancaster Hub and tell them that they could come and pick up their mats!
PRAYER: O God of the ages, we praise you that you continue to reveal yourself in a multitude of ways through those who serve you today just as you did through the prophets of old. Strengthen us that we may live in ways that enable us to hear and respond to Your timing and direction in our lives. AMEN.
