Did you know that Mission Central has medical equipment available at no charge?  Some refer to it as a “loan closet”, but others have described it as more of a “medical pantry” as items are given out with no expectation of a return.

If you or someone you know has a need for medical equipment, you can just call us and we’ll let you know if those items are available.  You could need just one item or numerous pieces…we are here to help in any way that we can.

Recently, we’ve received some stories from people who have utilized this service and wanted to share this information in hopes that we can reach and assist more and more people.

Kathryn Perella, a Home Health Occupational Therapist writes:

“As a Home Health Occupational Therapist working in some of the poorest neighborhoods of urban Harrisburg and it’s rural surroundings, I’ve referred many clients to Mission Central for their medical equipment loan closet.  Many of my patients face chronic disabilities that have limited their financial stability and depleted their resources.  Having free and necessary equipment available allows them to maintain their independence and safety in the community.  From shower seats, walkers and bedside commodes, my clients have significantly benefited from the generosity of this beautiful organization.

Because many insurance companies don’t cover bathroom equipment or a second walker for the 2nd floor, having Mission Central’s loan closet greatly benefits many local central Pennsylvanians with disabilities. I’m very thankful for this organization and for the generous people who support it!”

Ashley Visco sent the following to Executive Director, Rob Visscher:

“I am a Social Worker with Penn State Hershey Medical Group.  I cover the Family Medicine Practice Sites that are connected with the Hershey system.  One of the aspects of my role is to identify barriers to patients getting adequate medical care and then assist with locating resources to address these barriers.  I currently have a patient with significant financial and medical concerns who was in need of a spacer for an inhaler.  I reached out to your agency to see if this piece of equipment was something you may have on hand.  Every staff person I interacted with was incredibly, kind, compassionate and responsive.  I had the pleasure of speaking with Margi, Brad and Jean.  I explained to Jean what I was looking for and she went through your inventory and found the equipment.  She even took the extra time to tell me about your agency and other services that you provide!  We arranged that my patient would come to your location and pick up the spacer.

Unfortunately the patient ended up not having any form of transportation to get to Mission Central, as she lives in Lancaster County.  I spoke with Brad, who went above and beyond to come up with a plan so that I could get the spacer and then deliver it to the physician’s office for the patient’s upcoming appointment.

Brad truly went above and beyond to make sure this patient could get the spacer.  I have never had a non-profit go to this level of effort to help me troubleshoot this type of barrier for my patient.

You have a remarkable team and I look forward to working with you all again in the future.

Thank you!”
