As you know, a great part of Mission Central’s work is for UMCOR, the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Various UMCOR kits are assembled at Mission Central and throughout our HUB system. In fact, an entire page on our website is dedicated to those kits…providing instruction on the components and their assembly.
For more than 75 years now, UMCOR has worked nationally and globally, providing disaster relief and supplies. You may recall the recent flooding in the southern United States where Mission Central shipped thousands of cleaning buckets to UMCOR for distribution in Texas and Louisiana (see prior MissionLink) or the assistance they’ve been providing in Flint, MI to help with the ongoing water crisis (see prior MissionLink).
A grant from UMCOR enabled Mission Central to purchase our truck last year, which is helping to connect our HUBs in new ways and helps promote the flow of products throughout Mission Central’s own network and beyond.
Recently, at our General Conference, the United Methodist denomination decided to rename “One Great Hour of Sharing”, an offering taken traditionally to assist with UMCOR’s operating expenses, to “UMCOR Sunday”. UMCOR Sunday will take place on the 4th Sunday in Lent and this name change will help clarify the purpose of the day and of the offering. The full article is available here.
Please continue to support Mission Central and our efforts, as we help UMCOR and other great organizations. As a reminder, Mission Central does not receive Denominational or Conference funding and our budget is solely supported by donations and small grants. Your support helps us stay prepared when disasters strike, so that we can help provide supplies to UMCOR.
