You’ve probably heard of the Mission Central “Missions in Motion” 5K coming up this fall on October 29th. You may have skipped last year’s, thinking a 5K isn’t for you or that you’d never be able to do it. Many people feel the same way, but you shouldn’t let that worry stop you.
A 5K is 3.1 miles. This is something you can get ready for in just about 8 weeks. We’ve included a link to a Couch-to-5k program that is just one of many out there to help get you started. There are numerous apps for this as well.
Completing a 5K, whether you run or walk, gives a great feeling of accomplishment. It can be very fun, too, since you can do this with a group of friends. For those that really want to take the more serious route, our race is professionally timed. You can record your time and look to beat that time in your next 5K, just competing against the clock each time you run.
2 of the most common reasons people run or walk a 5K are for health and to support a cause. Mission Central’s “Missions in Motion” 5K will let you do both. It’s an easy course for beginners, with no hills, and for those more experienced, it allows an opportunity to return each year to compete against prior times and other people. While getting some exercise and spending the morning with friends and fellow runners, you can also help support Mission Central, a local organization that provides assistance to those in need locally, nationally and globally.
We’ll see you on October 29th!!
