Mission Central wishes you a blessed Independence Day Holiday and may we ever be mindful and thankful for the religious freedoms we have and fully understand the responsibility it brings.
Our faith informs all aspects of our life. May we always remember Christ’s mandate to “‘Love the Lord your God with all our passion and prayer and intelligence, ‘This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” [Matthew 22:34-36, Peterson’s The Message]
The prophet Micah’s directive as to what God requires of us, “but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God” [Micah 6:8b, The New Oxford Annotated Bible]
And finally words attributed to President Lincoln especially as we think about the continued unrest within our culture…..
“No nobler reply ever fell from the lips of a ruler, than that uttered by President Lincoln in response to the clergyman who ventured to say, in his presence, that he hoped “the Lord was on our side.” “I am not at all concerned about that,” replied Mr. Lincoln, “for I know that the Lord is always on the side of the right. But it is my constant anxiety and prayer that I and this nation should be on the Lord’s side.” [Francis B. Carpenter’s 1867 book, Six Months at the White House with Abraham Lincoln, page 282: ]
Happy Fourth of July!
